I came to the United States in the early 90’s. Los Angeles allowed me to make my passion my career and when you can do that it rarely seems like work.
From being a young teenager I was involved in competitive sports, sprinting turned into the unique world of bodybuilding and the quest for information started early.
20 + years of books and lectures, seminars and courses and I had a pretty good gig being a Personal Trainer is LA.
I was very confident about my skill set and my ability to communicate it, I was changing lives one person at a time. There were however frustrations that I didn’t seem to be able to overcome.

1. I love what I do but if I wasn’t working, I wasn’t getting paid. I didn’t feel comfortable going back home to England for more than a week as I’d lose income and the flow of my business always suffered. To some extent that is still very true, however I was well aware that is my business depended completely on me then it wasn’t a business at all .. it was a job.
2. I have no problem talking to people, some might say the problem is shutting me up and I do have a lot to say ! I have studied for decades, I have so many answers in my head that can help so many people and yet my audience was one person at a time.
3. I had a ceiling looming above my head. I hadn’t touched it yet, but it was right there. I can only work so many hours in the day and being paid by the hour meant I had a ceiling on my income. I could increase my rate but there too there must be a ceiling. Now I was far from hitting that ceiling but I sure didn’t like it being there.
4. My business (JOB!) had one major flaw and it was huge. Thankfully the competition also has the same flaw so everything being equal I was still in a good place. The flaw was ‘Nutrition’.
I know Nutrition. Not saying that Im the ultimate expert but Nutrition, Physiology, Training and Performance is all I have ever read. I have a pretty awful memory (I blame aspartame in the 80’s) but I can read and recite my studies all day. Maybe a client might bring up a subject and I’ll go to read up a little more on it .. next thing Im wearing out the highlighter pens, printing off every article I can find and bringing it all back together in my own words, as I love to write.
I know Nutrition. I competed for years upon years, my body was an experiment for every diet over a 13 year span. Then I have all my clients, as I put them on stage I would learn a little more each time by watching their bodies change. It’s still absolutely fascinating to me.
All PT know how crucial Nutrition is. The greatest workout cannot undo poor nutrition. I used to do it all by hand with a pencil and a calculator, then I had a number of software programs, but still the product I was supplying was inadequate. One of the man reasons “Diets” fail is non compliance and because giving someone a piece of paper with their meals on can never build compliance I was setting my clients up for failure. I knew it and so does every PT our there. The one saving grace was that in working with my clients on a regular basis I could help educate them on Nutrition and hopefully give them the understanding and knowledge to implement quality choices into their life.

I was at a friend’s gym one day and he was talking about Nutrition and the program he was using. It took me about half a blink of an eye to know “I had to have it”
Coincidently (or maybe not) the program was Venice Nutrition a company I was very familiar with. Infact I had referred a number of my clients to them as I knew they could do better work than I could with Nutrition. I had the skills; I did not have the tools. I was looking right at the “Tools”

All my studies and a very fabulous gentleman (Billy Smith) brought me to Blood Stabilization. So I was at a friend’s gym, looking at the very tool that supported my very belief system .. I had to have it ! It took a 30 minute conversation sitting in my car between clients for me to purchase the License and the Advanced Business Coaching.
This is one huge lesson I might pass on right here. If you’re in the fitness industry and you find yourself really trying to persuade someone to see an incredible opportunity available to them in their field of expertise then that is not good ROI (as Mark would say)

There can be no success without a plan. I have an Hons Degree in Business and I still didn’t have a plan.
Being a PT your schedule can run your life, nothing is ever certain and plans are made but too often shelved.
When times are good, you’re so busy all you do is work. My times are tough you get very creative, formulate the plans get everything lined up … and then you’re busy again.
Know your strengths and one of mine is accountability. I hate to be late for anything and I hate to let people down. Its part of being in the service industry, we care too much for everyone else and put ourselves at the bottom of the list.
ADVANCED COACHING
Bought it, agreed to it, had no clue what I was getting myself into...
The Advanced Business Coaching took one month and it did more for me than my 6 years of Business Study.
A weekly call with Mark and lots of homework and we dissected my work, hour by hour, dollar by dollar. I logged every minute of my day and was horrified at the end of it when I discovered my “Actual” hourly rate. Try that one, every email, every phone call every unused time between clients .. I was not happy

Action Plans that detail every opportunity I have and a step by step approach for each.
I’ve been in this industry for most of my life .. I know a lot of people, I now saw opportunities everywhere I looked. It would have been overwhelming, but now I had a plan … many many plans.
Working for myself and just by my character I don’t like debt and I sorry about spending large amounts of money.
Now I needed a new website, I had a license to pay for, fees to pay, a trip here, more money there, I live in Los Angeles (the money pit of the West Coast). I was a little stressed.
Took about 90 minutes and Excel for me to figure out my ROI to do what I needed to do and it equated to about 22 online members for a year. When we broke it down to that the decisions were made with ease. That is how you grow, you plan, you see, you execute.
I also wanted to build passive income. I found a number I needed and we broke that down too. If I would build coaches under my license then with just 4 hours a day they would bring me to that figure.
One month is all it took. Advanced Coaching made all my opportunities a reality; I have a plan for everything. The confidence that comes with that is priceless.
Now the plans do change. Some things work, some don’t and new opportunities arise and so I update my Action Plans accordingly.
Without doubt the best investment a Health Professional can make in their Business.
I am pretty sure that without it I would not be typing this today. It might sound dramatic but it is as honest as I can be. It’s almost embarrassing, I went to Business school and I’m a pretty savvy chick and yet one month changed everyting.
For me .. to have a Plan is to have Peace. I know where I’m going and I know what I have to do.

I played in the NFL for 12 years and was always interested in owning a Health Club. Being a professional athlete you have the best facilities and information available at your finger tips. When I retired and became a part owner in The Forum Athletic Club (2 locations) I realized that there were not many quality nutrition programs available for our members.
Most programs were designed around taking supplements or calorie deprivation, overall they seemed very unrealistic for people with busy lifestyles to work into their lifestyle.
